The Indian Traditional Drawing Group Classes at Swara Hindustani Classical Music School introduce students to the rich and time-honoured artistic traditions of India through Taalamana Paddati, an ancient system of proportion, measurement, and form. Rooted in the principles of Shilpa Shastra, this traditional method provides a systematic approach to understanding the structure and proportions of figures, deities, architectural elements, and decorative motifs.

Through carefully structured, step-by-step lessons, students learn the fundamentals of traditional Indian drawing, including measurement techniques, symmetry, proportions, geometric construction, posture, and detailing. The curriculum gradually introduces students to drawing traditional figures, temple architecture, divine forms, ornamental designs, and other elements inspired by India’s artistic heritage.

Our small-batch group classes provide a supportive learning environment where students can observe, practise, and develop their skills with individual guidance from the teacher. The classes are designed to nurture patience, concentration, observation, precision, creativity, and an appreciation for traditional Indian art.

Suitable for children and adults, these classes offer an opportunity to learn an authentic artistic discipline while connecting with India’s cultural and visual heritage. Students can progress systematically from basic principles to more detailed and advanced traditional compositions.
