Hindustani Classical Vocal Music
Hindustani Classical Vocal Music has a rich heritage rooted in the Vedic period and originated in Northern India. It is based on raagas (melodic frameworks) and taalas (rhythmic cycles), which set it apart from other musical traditions around the world. Over centuries, especially during the medieval era, Hindustani music evolved with various vocal forms such as Dhrupad, Dhamar, Khayal, Tarana, Chaturang, and Trivat as classical styles, and Thumri, Dadra, Tappa, Kajri, and Chaiti as semi-classical forms.
The tradition also saw the emergence of prominent gharanas (schools of music) like Gwalior, Agra, Jaipur, Kirana, Rampur, and Sahasawan, each contributing unique nuances to the art form. Today, Hindustani Classical Music is regarded as one of the finest and most expressive music systems globally.
Hindustani music is not only an art form but also a therapeutic medium. It offers several health benefits such as stress relief, mental clarity, and improved cognitive function. Regular listening or learning can help lower blood pressure, reduce heart rate, and enhance respiratory efficiency. Moreover, it can elevate mood, stimulate dopamine production, and assist in managing anxiety and depression.
Swara Hindustani Classical Music School follows the traditional Guru-Shishya Parampara, providing a sacred and immersive learning experience. The school welcomes students from age 5 and above, encouraging personal growth and holistic development through music. Students also receive the chance to perform at the school’s annual musical event, the “Guru Vandana Program,” and are trained to appear for government-recognized music examinations, making it a well-rounded platform for aspiring vocalists.
